Kalani knows loss, she knows pain, and she has learned to cope and is happy being alone. When her aunt and cousin try to convince her she needs to spend her senior year in Alrick Falls, she gives in, on the condition that she lives next door to them, not with them. Once she graduates bigger things are in her future, things that most 18 year-olds don’t have to deal with.
Enter Nate. He is Alrick Falls golden boy, the quarterback for the high school team that is going places. He is also the town playboy, he can get any girl he wants, and does. When Nate and Kalani first meet, she helps him out, and in return he assumes they hook up. When she puts him in his place, Nate opens his eyes and realizes that Kalani isn’t like the other girls in town. She is her own person, and she does what she likes and says whatever is on her mind. As the two get to know each other, it’s clear that Kalani is the girl that Nate wants, much to everybody’s surprise. When lies are told and accusations are thrown around, are Nate and Kalani strong enough to trust in each other? Or were they only meant to be a high school fling?
This is the fourth book I’ve read by Meagan Brandy and I have to tell you, she is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The way that she writes, you feel like you are a part of the story. Every character she writes, you feel their emotions as if they were your own. That to me, is what makes a book good. When you can feel every emotion and imagine every scene that unfolds. That’s what Meagan does, she captures you from the first page and keeps a hold on you until the very last. The banter between the characters in this book was gold. I loved every bit of it, and I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.
